OUR TODDLERS & PREK-2 CURRICULUM
SCC Preschool applies the HighReach Curriculum on a daily basis for
our younger groups of Toddlers and PreK-2. All HighReach Learning curriculum
programs are based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on
activities that address the needs of the whole child. In addition, each HighReach
Learning curriculum reflects the belief that children need a balance of
child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. This approach
reflects the beliefs of Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, Lev Vygotsky, David Ausubel,
and Jerome Bruner. This approach is grounded in sound child development theory
and appropriate practices. HighReach Learning also reviews state and national
standards for early childhood education and takes these into account when
planning curriculum. Themes are used to introduce information and learning
takes place as a child explores and manipulates real objects and events.
Toddlers explore everything with boundless energy. This curriculum encourages
their sense of discovery with building vocabulary, encouraging imagination,
and personalizing learning. Skills and Concepts Covered are: Talking &
Listening, Vocabulary, Colors, Social/Emotional Development, Self-Concept,
Small/Large Muscle Development and Creative Expression.
As we all know, two year olds are constantly in motion. Our PreK-2 children
are determined to learn on their own. The High Reach Curriculum provides
a rich learning environment that helps them expand their vocabularies, find
appropriate ways to express their creativity, and safely discover the world
around them with Curriculum for Twos. Skills and concepts Covered are: Talking
& Listening, Vocabulary, Colors & Shapes, Self-Concept, Small/Large
Muscle Development, Creative Expression & Arts, Cultural Awareness, Family
Participation, Music, Literacy and Language.
|Developmentally appropriate programs that address both the
age levels of the child and the individual cognitive needs give children
a higher quality learning environment.
